I've been busy uploading some new contemporary retro designs to my shops.

Here are a couple of collections I have set up on Society6 shop I currently have two collections where I am selling a huge number of products, ranging from credenza chests , wall clocks , wall murals , tables , t-shirts , tote bags , coffee mugs , phone cases , cushions and face masks . Why not take a quick look and see if there are any pattern designs that inspire you? Here is a selection of the 80s Memphis Design pattern products that I have listed: https://society6.com/billingtonpix/collection/80s-memphis-style Here is a selection of the Contemporary Retro Design pattern products that I have listed: https://society6.com/billingtonpix/collection/contemporary-retro I don't have as many designs uploaded as I do at my  BillingtonPix.RedBubble.com shop or my own BillingtonPix.com website, simply because the upload process is rather torturous. I have to physically enable each product, unlike on RedBubble where I have to just switch off the ones I don't want to push live. I do ...

A day in the Life of a BillingtonPix Graphic Designer and Business Owner

Image
I thought I'd write a bit of a brain dump about a typical day for me right now. It might prove useful to someone, as well as for me to get my thoughts in order. The main aim, obviously is sales. RedBubble is most of my traffic resides, so I have that as a number one priority. You can upload up to 60 designs a day on RedBubble, so I am currently ensuring that I maximise my product uploads there every day. That is the first thing I do in the mornings. I am currently uploading manually, although I have been investigating automation. Once my uploads to RedBubble are completed (by about 10am) my day is free to look at other things. The next task to perform is to share some of my newly updated products to RedBubble. My current designs work best of t-shirts, so I choose the t-shirt type from a number of my RedBubble designs and share them to my t-shirt and tops board. I used to share as I created, which is a useful feature that RedBubble provides at the end of every upload. However that o...

My Train Journeys across China

Image
My Train Journeys across China I've uploaded some Chinese-themed products to RedBubble and Zazzle today. Take a look! This page displays my t-shirts, stickers, phone cases and sweatshirts, but there are many more products listed on my website and marketplaces. I visited China in 1997, having taken the overland train from London Liverpool Street station all the way to Moscow, and then the Trans Siberian Railway from Moscow to Beijing. More recently I travelled from Hong Kong to Shanghai on a 72 hour transit visa. The difference between what I saw in 1997 versus what I saw in 2015, in terms of the pace of change was incredible. In the Peace Hotel, however, little had changed! I remembered that it is possible to go out onto the roof there, where there is a fantastic view of Pudong and the Bund. Buy Beijing Tees We arrived into Beijing on the day of the 1997 UK General Election. I had no idea that Labour had won the election until I saw a huge video of Margaret Beckett being played by ...

My Print on Demand Story

Image
A bit of background about me and some detail on how I have tried to build up my print on demand enterprise in the last 12 months. I've listed out a few general starter tips that might help someone to succeed at selling their digital artwork, although I am by no means an expert at this! Covid changed everything Until last year I worked in IT. I've done so since 1998. In April 2020 that all changed when Covid hit and I had to choose between a reduced salary or a redundancy. I chose the latter. For a while I haven't been enjoying my IT career. I was a solution architect but had not progressed for a while and was feeling rather disillusioned. So I left my job. For the next month I binge-watched Netflix, applying for new IT jobs and getting lots of rejections. The economy was hitting a buffer as companies froze their IT recruitment and I found myself just wasting my time preparing for interviews that never progressed. At that time I thought about selling my photography. I though...

Starting out with Print on Demand

Hey everyone, I'm Matthew and I'm currently in the process of creating a set of market place shops that will help me with my print-on-demand business. I live in London, and am currently sheltering from the Covid virus. It's been a tough year for a lot of people, but I'd like to document my own personal development since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic last year.  I took redundancy from old workplace last April. For a month I binged on Netflix. In my mind I had decided not to continue with my career. Until then I was a solutions architect, having begun an IT career back in 1998. To be perfectly honest I was no longer enjoying it, so the chance to leave my company with a bit of cash was quite appealing. I'm kind of nearing the time when I would ideally want to stop the professional working anyway (although about 5 years early!) so thought this might be the best opportunity I get to go out on my own terms. For the first month I binged on Netflix, in my flat, ...
